Title: My Crown Braid Post by DSW on Jun 30th, 2004 at 1:31pm
I had this done at the Ren. Fair north of Houston (Plantersville) by "Twisted Sisters" braiders several years ago. I enjoyed the process and received LOTS of complements the entire day. :) The lady doing the braid suggested putting small flowers in the braid but I declined. Might have been good if I were going to SanFrancisco (HaHa). ;)
I enjoyed wearing this style. Felt very nice and was quite cool. Just thought I'd share. (Maybe I should have put this in the braided locks section.) Love to all; DSW |

Thanks for sharing!
The pic was a bit dark for me to see, but I could see the braid. I had a similar type braid done at a Ren Fest last year. It felt so strange - like I had no hair at all. Wonderful for the hot days we were having. |

Looks cool! Wouldn't that be great to be able to do a crown braid on yourself? It's amazing how much hair disappears into the braid!

OOOOOoooooh. I can see it much better on my computer at home. Great crown braid!
I agree, that the flowers might have been a bit "over the top". You are an adventurous person with your hairstyles. Keep it up! |

You can do a crown braid on yourself. It takes loads of practice, but then all of a sudden it starts working for you. I find if I spritz my hair quite wet while in a crown braid, it sets really deep natural-looking waves, the higher the braid is, the more natural-looking the waves. |

Wow eKatherine, have you got any pictures of yourself with a crown braid?
I'll have to wait a year or so for my hair to be long enough! /Kate |

Kate, I can do a crown braid on myself too. The last time I did one was almost a year ago, so my hair was a lot shorter, but I learned the hand movements then. My hair is quite thick so it's harder, plus I don't like the look on myself (I find it to be unflattering), so I haven't done it for a while. If, however, I do it again, I'll be sure to take a pic ;)

Kate,
Here's a picture of what I call a double half crown braid. That's where I started at the center part in back, went around to the front, then started again at the back and went around the other way. The two braids crossed in front and got pinned up in the middle. |

It looks fantastic! And your hair is so shiny :-) I can't wait to be able to try on myself, I can only French braid my short hair.

Great idea, eKatherine! I'll have to see if I can manage your version of a crown braid while I'm on vacation.
Thanks for sharing your photo! |

Kate,
If your short hair is at least shoulder-length, you can fit it in a crown braid! My six year old sister has shoulder length hair, and i crown-braided it quite nicely. The only thing is, shorter hair wil work better if you do it French instead of the normal crown braid Dutch. The difference is, in French you go over instead of under, so even if hair loosens if often stays tucked in. You may have trouble doing it yourself if your hair is short, but it is possible! |
