Title: synthetic or wood
Post by samantha on May 14th, 2004 at 2:52am
I hate to admit it, but i like the plain old ,big plastic detangling combs you can get anywhere.  I have never been into boar brushes, maybe I bought the wrong kind?  What can you tell me about these wooden combs?  I have never used one.  THANKS!!

I use a wood comb because it does not cause static, it is smoother than plastic combs with seams, has nice wide teeth and I like how it feels in my hand.

Your detangling comb could be just fine.  I'd just check for  seams that might cause damage.  I'm all for whatever works!

I LOVE HARDWOOOOOD! (hardcore fan) (check out http://www.combmaker.com !) Hardwood combs give me virtually no breakage problems... mostly because they come with the instruction "Do not comb wet hair".
I still end up using boar bristle once in a blue moon, but for the most part these combs do the job of both a comb and a brush. and they're gorgeous too..

Hi,
I never heard of the wooden combs until I found this message board-thanks!

I have just ordered one and it should be here in a day or two, hopefully--I also ordered the Madora detangler to use on wet hair.

I'll let you know what I think, but I think I will like them both.

I'm getting all the toys, now I just need the hair!

The advantage of getting all the "toys" when your hair is shorter, is the fantastic condition your hair will be when it gets long!

Hang in there - you too will have long hair.

Thanks Bikerbraid!

I really needed a little word of encouragement this week-I've been in one of those in-between-lengths, layers-still-growing-out, bleach-on-the-ends, gonna-take-forever, might-as-well-cut-it moods.

I did get my wooden comb from Ric and I LOVE IT! I got the Santos Mahogany palm comb and it feels so good to my scalp and hair and in my hand.  I just hold it sometimes while I'm watching tv-that's borderline nuts I guess, but it has such a nice feel!

I also got 2 Ketylo corkscrew hairsticks, 1 cocobola and one cardinal.  How long does your hair need to be to use these? I can fake it with a scrunchie and a stick behind but my hair is too slippery to hold the stick alone yet

I also got some shampoo/conditioner from the health food store, Revitalize, and it has no SLS or cones.  I'm taking GNC Ultra Nourishair vitamins and a multi, using Aquis towels and oiling with jojoba and occasionally coconut oil.  My turbie twist faded on one of my pillow cases and I've been kind of scared to use it again-I use a BBB very infrequently, mostly just to smooth with.

Enough of my rambling- thanks for letting me go on and on! Guess I just needed to 'vent'.

I love this board!

Congrats on your new toys!  Be sure to take care of that comb and not let it get dried out - I'm assuming Ric sent along a little bottle of the wax/oil to treat the comb.  I try to remember to treat my combs at least once a month.

The length that you can use the hairsticks in a bun depends on how thick your ponytail is. This is one situation where having thin hair helps.  Go ahead and "cheat" to make you bun - no one will report you!
