I don't know about using baby shampoo - you would think it would be gentle, but I think I've heard people say it is drying to the hair.
There are a number of homemade recipe's here http://www.longlocks.com/hair-care-recipes-cookbook.htm |

I used to use baby shampoo all the time - and yes it is VERY drying also it made my hair very soft and fluffy- not a look that many people go for! However it is quite gentle on the scalp... :P

Hi Gingeroot
From what I've seen and heard, baby shampoo is normally too mild for adults. My hair dirtied again too quickly. I guess it depends on the hair type... Anais |

I want to try the desert shampoo for dry hair recipe but it asks for gliycerin. Where do I buy glycerin? I looked at the health food store and didn't see any but I may not have looked hard enough. Also, what does it do?

HI Noelkara
In pure state, glycerin absorbs moisture and can be very dehydrating. Dissolved in solution, however, glycerin is a humectant (attracts moisture) and softens skin and hair. There is some debate about how it works exactly. Glycerin also has some other properties that still are being researched. hope you find this helpful Anais |

whoops, one more answer.
There are many soapmaking supplies sites that sell vegetable glycerin (as opposed to animal-fat-byproduct glycerin??). If you're not in any hurry, here are some great sites that sell glycerin at a good price: http://www.emporiumnaturals.com (ships from New England area) http://www.cedarvale.net (ships from Kansas) Anais |

Hi Noelkara,
In Boulder, I'd look at a) the Pharmaca on North Broadway (NE corner of Broadway and Alpine, I believe), b) Vitamin Cottage (near 30th & Pearl; right next to Whole Foods), and c) Whole Foods Market, 28th & Pearl. You could always call first and ask. It seems to me I've seen it around town, but I'm not sure where. Good luck! Christine |

Hey Christine
I found it at Vitamin Cottage for about $3. I'll try the shampoo next time and we'll see how it goes! THanks |
