Title: hair forks and other accessories
Post by Gwynalah on Nov 10th, 2003 at 6:40pm
I've been looking around on the web, and I can't find any information about how to use hair forks.  My hair is halfway down my back, straight, and thick, and getting in my way!

How does one use a hair fork to style hair?  Any tips on webpages that have instructions on more hairstyles than longlocks.com to get my hair out of my face and to look professional at work?

Here are a few sites that I like to visit for hair styles:

http://www.treasuresfromthetree.com

You can use a hairfork much the same way you would use a hairstick.  Some of the more common uses are for french rolls (a style I have never mastered).

I love treasuresfromthetree (ketylo) hairsticks!
I just ordered a medium canarywood stick!

I have several hairsticks from Treasures from the Tree.  They are amazing hairsticks.  They hold so well without being "tight".  I keep one in my handbag all the time for when I need to do a quick bun to keep my hair safe.

The SpiralStix are the Keylo stick with Susan's beads and finish.  In my opinion, they combine the best of both worlds!

I've heard many people complaining of Blueheronwoods. They have not got the items they have ordered at all, or it has taken extensively long time (several months). I love how their beaded hairsticks look though...but they seem a bit overpriced: they cost as much as LL SpiralStix though there is much less of work by the artist involved.

I don't have plain Ketylos either, but I love my SpiralStix. ^^

As for the real topic... hairforks are used with pretty much same styles as hairsticks- it's a bit like inserting two hairsticks at once. You need just a bit practice.
I use my forks usually with a plain bun, but they are really good for making nearly all kinds of updos.

One of the best I ever found for staying put is
www.climbingbear.com/hairsticks.html (link may not work they are re-designing their site.

Another fork I've had great luck with is Ron Quattro's steel (hollow stainless steel) - light bendy but not breakable with wonderfully buffered tips.

For shear beauty Mamacats hair forks http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZmamacatwc just can't be beat.

Forks are very good indeed  ;D...g

I've got a fork from Ric (the combmaker).  It seems to pull or even tear at my hair when I put it in :o.  Not sure if I'm doing something wrong ???  Don't seem to have that trouble with hairsticks.  Maybe I my hair is too short yet and I have it wound tighter so the hairfork can't go in smoothly?

I don't think your hair is too short if you can use hairsticks without problem. My guess would be that you just need practice.

I forgot to mention, my hair forks are custom ordered from Blondiesturn (LHC member, sells also on Ebay). They're absolutely stunning and smooth as glass.
