Title: Home party for long hair??? Post by bikerbraid on May 18th, 2003 at 11:40pm
I have been asked by a friend to do a "Hair Party" for her teenaged daughters. They want to invite a number of friends who all have below the shoulder hair and have me show them different ways to style their hair. They want me to show them how to use hair sticks, Bunjii ponytailers, scrunchies, and anything else I can come up with. These are 13 - 16 years olds. I have lots of fun hairsticks and Bunjii's and crocheted scrunchies to use as examples. I plan to show them how to do french braiding, gathered twists, herringbone braid, braided bun, simple bun, and knotted pony tail. Any suggestions for what else I should try to do? I only wish I could do a decent crown braid to show them.

You could try showing them a dutch braid as well. Do you have any decent instructions for doing the herringbone?

This site doesn't have instructions on the Herringbone, but has many other style that girls may have fun with at the party.
And if they practice, they could even do them on their own hair... http://www.dressytresses.com/hair-styles/ |

Here's a site that has instructions for the herringbone. http://www.longhair.me.uk/ go to "Questions" for the directions. |

Yes, I plan to give them a handout of some of the sites that I have used for ideas for styles and instructions along with simple instructions for a bun and french braid for them to try on themselves or each other. And Leia - thanks for the Dutch braid suggestion, I will show that as well. |

I think this home party is a very good idea. Firstly, remember that girl who was in here who wanted to cut her hair off but her mother wouldn't let her? This would give people like her more ideas on what to do with their hair. Also, it does get kind of tiring seeing the people in my school having the exact same hairstyle every day. I have plenty of variety which everyone notices but no one ever asks me *how* I've done a certain style/braid... so I don't think they'll be breaking out of their habit anytime soon!
Well, have fun, and I hope they learn a lot! |

Yes, we had a great time. I'm occassionally asked to do the hair of some of the participants for special events!
