Hi There,

I'm currently looking to work with people from the DC/VA/MD area who do braids (singles, micro-braids, cornrows, other types of braided hair fashions with both human and synthetic extensions) and I'm also looking for people who do string tied extensions (preferably using the pinchbraid string technique), coloring, cutting... the works.

In a nutshell, I am an Independent music artist who changes up her hair style quite often. I used to have a personal hair stylist/braider, but I moved from California to the Washington, DC area in recent months and have not had success finding someone who can braid my fine hair as well as my last stylist.

Ideally, I am looking for someone creative who is up and coming and who is willing to work with a modest budget.  You don't have to be licensed. I don't mind coming to you to get braided/styled etc. If you have a desire to get into doing hair for entertainment (live shows, music videos, photo shoots etc), this would be a great opportunity for you to get your foot in the door.

I already have one album released and did one national tour to support that record. I am currently recording new material for a second release planned for this Fall and that will be followed up with a national tour and if budget allows, a music video. You would not have to travel on tour with me. I am using my downtime to find a new braid/hair stylist and to experiment with some new styles. I really hope to find someone who is interested in a long term working relationship.

I'm totally open to new hair ideas and love to experiment with cuts, braids, extensions and color.

You try contacting local the Renaissance Festival and/or SCA groups.  They usually have hairbraiding artists.  Sounds like fun, I wish I was in the area and had the talents you are looking for.  Good Luck!

I too am looking for a hair salon/stylist in the northern VA area.  A very recognized name salon not only botched my hair color, but instead of trimming my hair 1 1/2 inches, she took off 6!!!  She then told me she had never dyed hair below a zone 5.  I was so depressed for days, I know it sounds silly, but my hair was below my bottom, now to my waist.  I had reddish auburn hair that was matched to my natural color as a younger girl, so I can portray a scottish/irish lass as a civil war historian.  She dyed it dark brown.  It still is not the right color.  I started dying it myself, but it is too long for me to do evenly.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience.  Did you talk with the salon manager?  If they messed up that bad, they should have offered to correct it for you (preferably with a different stylist).

Yes the salon manager told me to come back the next day to correct my hair color(?) I thought it was too soon, so I just didn't go back.  All the salon ladies had dark brown hair like they mis-dyed moine to or albino blonde.  

At least they did offer to correct the error.  

You might check in the phone directory for a Beauty School and ask them for recommendations for an experienced colorist in the area.  Good luck, I hope you find someone to help you get your hair back the way you want it.

    My hair is thick and wavy.  It has a place in the back that has a mind of it's own, the old cow lick.  I used to hate it when I was younger because I always had short hair growing up and the cow lick area stood straight up or side ways.  Now that I have long hair, it lays better there, but is a little waver there.  I like it best when I take the time to straighten it, but I know that is not good for my hair to do on a regular basis.  I love looking at yalls hair, nobody understands the dedication of taking care of long hair like rapunzels!!!!  (thanks for asking leia).

There are a few things you can do to straighten your hair without damaging it. Bikerbraid mentioned in one of her older posts that you can put your hair in a ponytail and then put a leg of old pantyhose on it, and sleep with it all night. I tried it, and it didn't quite make it straight but it did reduce a lot of static which bugs me in humid weather.
Another way is to put rollers in it. Don't use hot rollers but just normal ones, and it gets your hair almost perfectly straight. I find it works best for me when my hair is slightly damp, and I leave the rollers in all night.

 I am experiencing some hair fall out due to stress and recent health issues.  It is not a LOT of hair, but a little more than usual.  I just hope it doesn't go through other problems - I fell in the snow the other week and have had to had several xrays, an MRI, and 2 Cat scans.  All within 2 weeks time.  That means horrible barium and dye contrast stuff to swallow that not only makes my insides very sick for a day or so it will probably effect my skin and hair.  Any suggestions ladies?  (thanks)

Ouch, having a degenerative back condition I know how a fall can be a pain.  

I found the MSM, Biotin and Silica helped with my fallout which was due to hormonal changes.  A good multi-vitamin and healthy diet is always a good idea.  Hope you feel better real soon!

The only times I have hair fall out problems is when I'm not eating properly, and yes, stress contributes a lot. Try to relax! Get a massage  ;D! Also, make sure you are on a healthy diet as bikerbraid mentioned. It's very important! I just found out one of my friend's is anorexic and her lovely red curls are becoming very thin :'(. Please take care of yourself, hehe your hair will be very thankful!
