Title: Long locks
Post by leia on Jan 24th, 2003 at 12:58am
hairWhat qualifies as very long locks? The longest mine has been was mid-thigh length and that was longer than anyone I know! Would that be qualified as long :P because I wouldn't have it any other way, and if it was longer than that it would be difficult for me to handle. And I don't think it would grow *that* much longer!

Defining an adjective can be quite difficult.  As I mentioned in reply to another of your posts, any length beyond the shoulders is usually considered long by the general population.  However, if in a room of people who all have hair beyond their shoulders, shoulder length would be "short".  Waist length would typically be considered long by any but the longest of hair growers.  Anything beyond the waist is usually considered very long, or super long.

Hair longer than the waist does have its special considerations.  If you were interested in persuing hair growth to those longer lengths, visiting http://www.tlhs.org/index.html could be quite helpful.

So sorry, that was our mistake, we should have defined "Rapunzels" a little bit better for this board.  We mean anyone with hip length or longer hair.  I'll make sure the description for the board is changed to something that describes it a bit better!

Rapunzel, what are your hair growing goals at the moment? Are you still growing your hair or keeping it at the same length?

I'm still letting it grow.  I'm still curious enough to find my terminal length, though frustration with dealing with it might end that quest before it sees its natural end, LOL!

I find that "ignoring" my hair for a while helps with my frustrations.  In other words, put it in a bun or braid so that I do not have to deal with my hair during the day.  [But I then pamper it at night  ;) ]

I want to find my terminal length too! I always thought it never went past my hips but I've just looked in some old photos and the longest I've had it was down at classic length. But it got frustrating because I was young and didn't tie it up often and I kept sitting on it and it was awkward holding my hair when going to the bathroom *blush* so I cut it to my hips. It stayed there till I was 13 (regular trims)! At the moment I'm still growing it out, I want it back to my hips again and maybe I will let it grow longer if I ever get it back down there again!

I am also growing to my terminal length.  Still going strong at hip-length.  Those pre-natal vitamins help a lot!!  Hopefully I'll continue growing before the "little angel" pulls it all out ;D
He likes to get my attention waking up from naps by sucking one thumb and pulling out individual hairs on my head  OUCH!!!

Oh my, don't let "little angel" determine the length of your hair!  :o  You may find you need to keep your hair braided or in a bun more often until he learns that pulling mommy's hair is not acceptable. :D  You don't mention "angel's" age, but even at an early age a firm but gentle "no, that hurts" should help change the behavior.

How do you pamper your hair?

I think we are all working on terminal length...My hair is just above my knees and I don't think it is done yet. YEA!!!!  I can't wait to see how long it will get.

Please don't let your little angel determine the length of your hair...keep it tied out of the way until he learns not to pull you hair.  Babies love soft things maybe a new fuzzy toy will take the place of your hair.

What are some of your favorit ways to pamper you hair?

My pampering routine starts with a gentle detangle.  I then apply jojoba oil to the length of my hair and brushing my hair to distribute the oil.  In the winter I then like to take a dry sauna.  This is the equivalent of a hot oil treatment when I have applied a heavy dose of jojoba oil.  I then shampoo and condition my hair and detangle with the shower water assisting. Apply a very small amount of jojoba oil and then let my hair air dry.   When mostly dry (but not quite) I will roll my hair with my favorite socks and sleep on them.

I learned last weekend, that if my husband and I switch sides of the bed, "angel" pulls HIS hair.  I guess he favors that side ::)   I'm not going to let hubby know....

Angel is almost 14 months and I am breaking his habit of sleeping with someone next to him...  THAT will take care of the hair pulling!  He is now starting to reach up and grab a handfull of his own hair and gives it a tug  :-/

LOL, I hope he does not yank out all his own hair!

I truly think he only likes the feel of hair and does not mean to actually pull it out.   :o

He does not have enough of his own yet to pull out.  Maybe that's why.....   hmmmm

I consider very long hair to be classic length and longer.
