Title: I know I am a little bit curious... Post by E. on Dec 28th, 2002 at 11:02pm
...but there is one question I am very interested in:
What is your boyfriend´s/ husband´s "attitude" towards your hair? Mine hated me showing my hair to other people especially men. He loved it very much and would have prefer so see it down with exklusive rights. I found this very funny but I think he was serious about ist ??? |

Richard is completely cool with my hair. He loves it, even though I needle him to help me take care of it. He has no preference either way if I wear down or up, in public or at home. Well, except when we're sleeping, at which time he has a tendency to call it "shrubbery" if I wear it down, which I never do anyway because there's just too much of it and the paramedics would have to come and unknot us in the morning ;)
As he looks on while I'm typing this, he makes the point that he would insist on being consulted before I were to go have any serious amount cut off, to which I pointed out that he'd be the only one I would trust to do it anyway. |

Other people seemed much more interested in my hair than my honey was. He liked it, but he was not nearly as attached to it as I was (no pun intended). He has had no problem with my hair pix on the web. His concern is more for common-sense safety - I do get some weird ones once in a while, both in cyber-land and IRL.

Title: my husband likes my hair shorter Post by cupcake on Dec 31st, 2002 at 1:07am
augh! For a very brief period, when I started working and bought into the long hair isn't as professional thing (wasn't wearing it up in those days), I had a shoulder length curly bob. my now husband really liked it. do you think he doens't like long hair bc I occasionally go to sleep with it wet and flip over and hit him in the face with a big whump of COLD wet hair?!?! :)
he likes it up. we both hardly see it down (it's either up for day or braided for night) so it is hard to get a feel for exactly what it looks like. it actually is pretty short now, and he very tolerantly agrees with me when I say it is totally short (mid-back when dry, in an attempt to get rid of some bad split ends, from waist length... very traumatic). |

My husband has longer-than-shoulder length hair - in fact, the first year and a half we were married, his hair was longer than mine. But he had a lot of badly split ends, and by the time the stylist was done trimming, mine was longer. He's continued to maintain the same length while mine grew out, so I win ;D
He's said it's totally up to me - long, short, doesn't really matter to him. But I don't think he really means it...the shortest he's ever seen my hair was when it was shoulder length when wet (and thus chin length when dry....ouch!). I suspect if it was any shorter than that again, we'd both be unhappy. He's always amused when people see me with my hair down and ask if I've had a perm (this, even from people who've known me for years). He says they must just be so dazzled by my hair that they don't think about having seen it before |

Well any of us that have really long hair suffer from the fact that there is someone in our lives who has a strong opinion about how we should wear our hair...My husband does not care if I wear it up or down but he is very adamant about the fact that it stays long! Ok so I have to remind him of this when he complains that my hair is everywhere...The trade off is that I make him keep his hair really short...his hair can be curly...if I can't have curles neither can he!!
I wash my hair at night so it has time to dry so there are mornings I have to eradicate him from it. According to him it is nice to snuggle with! :) |

My husband loves my long hair and doesn't mind when I receive a nice compliment.
He was concerned about the woman who had her hair cut on the bus. He decided that I need to keep my hair up in crowded places if he isn't there to protect me. We had not thought of someone stealing some of it! |

My husband use to hide my hair under his pillow so he won't get slapped in the face. I use a few soft covered pony tail holders to wrap around it now. I still remember the first time I found myself laying on my hair in my sleep and woke up because I couldn't turn over. |

Hello all. We are a long hair "Family." My husband has hair just past his shoulder blades when dry and almost to his waist when wet. We have four boys, three of whom had long hair until 1st grade. My 7 year old had hair down to his waist when he got it cut last year!!! :(
I really liked their hair that way, but they got teased a lot at school, and it got worse when the school went to non-gender uniform shirts. I plan to have our fourth (just turned a year) follow in his brothers' footsteps. I have hip length hair, my husband wouldn't have it any other way (except longer, of course) He likes everything "ALL NATURAL" and doesn't mind others commenting or touching my hair, although, I don't like the touching thing.... |

The only thing my SO makes strong comments about are about the state of my hair for sleeping: He hates it in his face at night! Makes his nose tickle and he sneezes( :D) 'Course, I can't sleep with it loose -- it gets wrapped around my neck somehow :-/. So I always have it in braids -- and do even when he's not around! :)
Beyond that I don't think he feels very strongly one way or the other -- he loves it long, but has often said he'd feel the same about me with it short. (I wouldn't! I hated my hair short!) ;) |

20 years ago when I had hair at mid-thigh level, Hubby # 1 loved the look. I usually had it braided or put up during the day, and only wore it down for "going out." Hubby # 1 did not, however, ever willingly participate in any aspect of my hair care, and when my hair got too long for me to braid by myself, he flat out refused my request for help. I cut my hair to shoulder length the next week, and left him several months later.
Oh, ladies, keep your patience! I should never have done it (cut my hair, I mean) - here I am now trying to grow it out again, just tell me it's never too late! Hubby # 2 developed a thing for nurses, I doubt if he ever noticed a THING about MY hair. Present Hubby cheered out loud several months ago when I declared war on locks-chopping, bleach-mongering stylists and announced that I wanted to grow my hair. I asked him if he would help me with handling it if it ever got too long. "Of course!" he said, "I love long hair! I remember when your hair was so long and beautiful. I'll help you all you want if you will grow it out." Well, hon, if that's your Final Answer, then you have my heart forever! |

Lilly Dale;
Sounds like you have found your true soul mate this time. I hope you have many years together sharing your hair experience. And be sure he learns to braid your hair! |

I'm not sure I would trust my husband to braid my hair (he is an operating room nurse) I would end up with a head full of knots....but I do love it when he washes my hair...that is a real treat....

I would think that as an operating room nurse he would be good with his hands. Have him practice with old neckties so you don't have to put your hair at risk.

:) My husband loves the fact that im growing my hair, He wanted me to while we were dating but I didnt care much about it then. I would fry it and chop it and everything else. Now that Im letting it grow, If I decided to cut it he would be very upset. He likes my hair(not as much as me) but loves to play with it and give me scalp massages. I want him to hurry up and learn to braid so he can do it for me. My hubby used to have midback hair, and used to keep it in braids. I want him to grow it again but he cant because of his job, which is why he cut it in the first place.

My guy encouraged me to grow my hair long in the first place. Funny thing is, it was after 5 bloody marys that the subject came up. He loves my hair and I love having him run his fingers through it... Aaaaand! his hair goal is waist length.

Mine loves my long hair, he doesn't even want me to wear it up at all because he likes seeing all that flowing hair hanging down. :)

My husband likes me to wear mine down too. I dunno what it is with fellas and long hair.
Shortly after we were married, I decided to "surprise" hubby with a new 'do. I ended up getting it cut up to my chin. I liked it. When hubby saw me, he was very polite and said, "Ohhh...you...cut....your....hair" (fake grin). He told me months later that he absolutely hated my new cut but didn't want to hurt my feelings by saying so. Now, he LOVES my hair. He brushes it for me a nighttime and he's more gentle with it than I am! He begs me not to cut it when I get in those scissor happy moods. He's such a pet! :-* |

My husband (himself a longhair) loves my hair, but he knows that first and foremost, it's mine, not his. He would never presume to put limitations on me, on if, when, and where I can or cannot wear it up, down, or in-between. Because of his lack of need to control or obsess, and his delight in me before my hair, I am inclined to trust him more, and I seek his input, fully knowing that he'd never make demands. I never ever have to fear that he'll turn into a control freak. He will willingly detangle my hair patiently even after a grueling 10-hour day at work and playing out in his band to 3 AM. He's a great guy! :-*

my bf adores long hair. he just got a bit nervous when i said i would like to know the full length my hair can reach. he's afraid i will let it grow longer than classical length cuze in his opinion that looks plain weird. personally i'd probably cut it if it became too long to wear it loose without annoyment lol, so he shouldn't worry.
when does hair become a burden?? past knee length? (but in theorie, for that you'd need special genetics. |

Who says long hair ever becomes a burden??

Title: Re: I know I am a little bit curious... Post by eKatherine on Nov 12th, 2004 at 11:33pm
Um, last time my hair got down to my knees, I was unable to brush it myself, and had no one else to do it for me. That's pretty much of a burden.

that's what i meant lol. and above that, what's the fun of having long hair if you're forced to wear it up in a bun most of the time? (and i live in a rather windy place). |
Title: Re: I know I am a little bit curious... Post by Galadriel on Nov 13th, 2004 at 10:21am
I have planned to do exactly that! To grow a long hair and wear it on gorgeous updos all the time ;D...well, I'm already wearing my hair up all the time though it isn't very long yet. I'm so excited when I think all the pretty things I can make when there's more of it!
My spouse actually talked me into growing my hair at a time when I didn't care much of how it looked and didn't know anything about all the pretty hairstyles and hair toys. I'm so happy that I listened him. He'd rather have my hair down than up. Since I don't like the idea of having my hair down, I try to teach him to braid. He can play and pet my hair as he wants to and I get pretty braids. :) |

My husband likes my hair down much better, too.
I can't wait until my hair gets long enough so I can do some really pretty updos, like the crown braid. One reason I really wanted to grow my hair really long was several years ago I bought a book on hairstyles It's called The Five Minute Hairstyist. There are styles for both short, medium and long hair. Most of the styles are for long hair. There is a style in there called the Topknot, or Edwardian Elegance, where you gather the hair in a ponytail ,wrap it around and then pull it through, while leaving sort of a poof in front almost like a Gibson Girl. Anyway, the instructions say that hair that's a couple of inches below the shoulders (such as mine is now) is too short to do the style. Many of the pretty long hair styles need almost waist length hair. I've been wearing my hair up a lot, all this week, and hubby said to me, "why don't you wear your hair down more?" He Likes it down a lot better. But my fine, fragile hair, if it's going to get long, will need to be in an updo most of the time to protect the ends. Plus, it's very very windy her on the plains most of the time. |

oh, don't take me wrong, i like updo's.
i just wish i could do them effordlessly. and about length being a burden ... i equally think that anything shorter than hiplength is a burden since it continously falls in front of my shoulders >:( |

Yeah, I am kind of torn because I like to wear my hair down so that everyone can see how long it is. ;) Sometimes I like to wear it up but then I usually have someone saying to me really disappointed "oh, you have all that beautiful hair up and hidden away". ::) So I usually end up wearing it in a ponytail that way it is kind of like half up and half down. :-/ ;D |

Autumn,
It took me a long time to get used to wearing my hair up, but now I love it. I've decided not to wear my hair down until December at the office because everyone has to awe about the length when I have it down so seldomly. Valerie |

I found that after I started wearing my hair up all the time, when I occasionally wore it down, people who had known me for years would say to me that they had never seen my hair down before, even though I'd been wearing it down exclusively until a few months previous.
