Title: Pigs must be flying now.... Post by hasani on Dec 28th, 2002 at 4:33pm
...cuz I never imagined I would find myself in the Chemo Hair Club. :'(
I've been working on an update to my hair page to include the new hair status...but the subject still upsets me, and it's been a slow process. Old self-images die hard, and apparently my subconscious still thinks I have long hair. There are still mornings when I stumble past the mirror and say, "Aaaack! What happened?!" Well.....at least I haven't caught my hair in the retractable seat belt lately. ~ snark! ~ ~ Hasani |

Oh Hasani, I don't know what to say, this is so upsetting! I hope you are going to be very well soon, I had no idea you were ill. And how horrible to lose one of your most treasured comforts when you need it most. PLEASE get well! And if you want to keep us updated on your "hair recovery" as well, as insignificant as it is in comparison, I for one will be very happy to cheer on your progress!

Dear Hasani,
I don´t know what to say...I hope you will recover soon from your disease. I wish you the best and that you will find enough strength for your next weeks. E. |

Everything's cool, my friends. The chemo's over and I'm in remission! I was able to keep dancing and teaching throughout the 11 months the treatment took. THAT made all the difference. ;)
I decided if I was going to have to run around with fake hair, I might as well be obvious about it. I was never the same hair color or length two days in a row - made things rather interesting. :) And no, blondes do not necessarily have more fun, haha. ~ Hasani |

I couldn't be happier to hear you are well again Hasani! And I love your spirit, the different colors was genius! :D

just found out today that my dad has leukemia and I am not holding up well at all. please keep us posted on your progress. it is so nice to hear you sounding spunky and good. I have an embarrassing love of fake hair, I have a scrunchy that I wear all the time around my bun. it is fun to look different. I hope your outer beauty matches your inner beauty soon.

If I were 24 instead of 54 I'd go for shocking pink streaks!
Sometimes it is hard being old. ;) |

Why would your age matter. If you want shocking pink streaks, I say go for it! (I am 49 and still wear my hair in twin braids!)

Oh cupcake!! I'm so sorry! How is your dad doing? Things like this are never easy. :-( I've got some neat hats I'd be willing to lend him if/when his hair falls out, haha. ;-) Hugs and support, ~ Hasani |

Why on earth does your age stop you? Have you seen Betsy Johnson lately? ;) I'm not all that much younger than you are and I'm a whole lot older than 24. I had a teal blue streak in my hair for awhile last year... the stuff does wash out ya know. Should I even mention the diamond stud I had put in my nose during our honeymoon at the age of 39? That was three years ago yesterday! And if I suddenly found myself with short hair, I'd have the Christina Aguilera/Shakira extensions done in a heartbeat! |

Happy Anniversary!!!! ;D
My oldest son wore face and body jewelry (27 piercings in total) when he played in the band. I was relieved when he turned 30 and took out the last one. They made my face hurt! :o My daughter is considering a bellybutton piercing. One hole in each ear was enough for me. LOL |

Well.....at least I haven't caught my hair in the retractable seat belt lately. ~ snark! ~ ~ Hasani [/quote] When your hair reaches that extra long stage as your was (and beautiful it was, based on the pic you posted), it does become a part of you that does not leave just because it was lost. I hope your regrowth is going well and you are having some fun with the shorter lengths that you have not experienced for many years. I hope you continue to be healthy and happy and enjoy your regrowth. |

My mother-in-law just went through a year of chemo once a week and her hair did not fall out or even thin out (it is at about mid back length)...it all depends on the type of chemo they use and the type of leukemia he has... I hope all will be well with your Dad and my thoughts are with you...it can be difficult sometimes...just know we are here. |

What type of cancer was it? There are a lot of new treatments for when they can target a specific area, like ovarian cancer, kidney, anything where a specific organ is targeted. When you have one of the blood cancers (leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma), the types of chemo used will cause hair loss. I have not learned of a type of leukemia where there is no hair loss. Lower stages may not have as high a degree of hair loss, but I would be surprised if someone went through any type of leukemia without bleomycin, and that is one of the worst. Just curious... |

Hasani,
Didn't I exchange a couple of emails with you at some point not long after I lost my hair? Maybe it was when I announced that I was cutting it off the day before chemo started. I'm glad to hear you are in remission. I find out in May if I am. In case I am thinking of someone else, I was diagnosed January 27, 2003 with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I lost my hair mid-February. Then I was pounded with treatments for a long time. At some point my diagnosis was changed to something like Advanced Resistant Hodgkin's, but I can't remember the exact terminology. I kept working off and on until September. Then my disability kicked in, and I had to stop working. I had to have a bone marrow transplant. Those are yucky! That is my brief version of the last year. I just finished radiation early February. Preliminary tests look good, but I won't know until May if I'm in remission. I know what you mean about looking at the mirror and doing a double-take. I still have long hair when I dream, so it is so hard to get used to having no hair, or very short as the case is right now. How long is your hair now, if you don't mind saying? I was measured at an inch late February. I know it is a touch longer, but I'm not sure of the current length. I'll shut up for now. Peace, Kari |
